As Jean Piaget said, "Play is the work of childhood." American Pediatricians agree. A new report by the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends doctors "prescribe" play at child well visits. 

The Academy's report says, “Play is not frivolous. It nurtures children’s ingenuity, cooperation and problem-solving skills — all of which are critical for a 21st century workforce. It lays the neural groundwork that helps us pursue goals and ignore distractions.”
